8/14/2023 0 Comments Gladys taber and jillI love her tales of cats and dogs: Amber, the tiny cat with intestinal problems, grew up to be a gourmet who liked asparagus tips and fried shrimp Silver Moon, a dog, needed a glass of tomato juice every day and Sister liked beef stew, but disliked carrots, and picked the carrot out and arranged them around the plate. Her reminiscences of family, neighbors, and pets are endearing. After their husbands died, Gladys and Jill moved from New York City to Stillmeadow permanently.Ĭountry Chronicle is one of her more charming books. Gradually, they fixed the leaking pipes and replaced primitive appliances. There was so much wrong with the house that they did camp in it at first. ‘Even a small piece of land we could put tents on,’ said Jill. And one day as we walked the children along Central Park West, I looked up at the hazy sky and said, ‘If only we could get to the country for a weekend, a real weekend!’ Jill’s son, David, was four, her daughter, Barbara, six, and my daughter, Connie, eight. “Eventually both families came to the city and faced the smog and noise and confusion and the problems of raising three children in gloomy apartments. In Country Chronicle, published in 1974, she retells the story of buying Stillmeadow. Taber and her friend Jill had been roommates in college, and desperately wanted a country getaway. Taber and her husband bought Stillmeadow, a 1690 Connecticut farmhouse, as a vacation home with another couple in 1943. She was also the author of the “Diary of Domesticity” column for the Ladies’ Home Journal and the “Butternut Wisdom” column for Family Circle. Taber, who graduated from Wellesley and earned a master’s at Lawrence College, wrote cookbooks, the Stillmeadow series, and fiction. It gave me courage to face the next day, wading through thigh-high snowdrifts to get to the hospital. I read it during a blizzard, while my mother was in the hospital, and soon I was deep in Taber’s beautiful Connecticut winter of birds, beauty, cooking, shoveling, and frozen pipes. It seemed I had given it to her for Christmas one year, and like so many presents we give others, it was the perfect gift for me. I discovered Gladys Taber’s The Stillmeadow Road, a charming book about country life, at my mother’s house. 8/14/2023 0 Comments Random sampling calculatorNow let’s break these concepts down a bit more: The margin of error or confidence interval If you set the sample calculator to a confidence level of 95%, an error margin of 5%, and a total population of 7743955, the sample size would be 385. For instance, Bogotá, Colombia, has 7743955 inhabitants according to the 2018 census. Set the total population, you can take help from official data of your community, or an approximate number. The margin of error is put as a percentage that indicates how the outcomes are within an approximate percentage of the values obtained. Select the margin of sampling error, which is an indicator of the reliability of the study and the accuracy of your outcomes. The most effective and common confidence level is 95%. That’s the degree of certainty (or probability) in terms of percentage with which it is pretended to estimate a parameter through a sample statistic. Determine the confidence level you would like to obtain.Remember that the sample will be representative because it will have the right margin and confidence level, so follow the following suggestions: Click on Calculate, and there you go! The result will show in the box below.Set the total population for your study.Include only the number, no need to add the “%”. Introduce the percentage of the error margin you would like to use.Choose your preferred confidence level. However, we’d like to share the following tips and notes for you to fully understand the entire process behind this useful, nearly magical tool. Population: Total number of people your universe represents. The larger the margin of error, the lower the confidence level of the results. Margin of Error: It is the percentage of error that may exist in your sample. Confidence Level: Indicates the degree of confidence that the data is representative of the entire population. 8/14/2023 0 Comments Intrusive thoughts about deathAnd she did all this while knowing her husband’s grim prognosis: a 50% chance of surviving the next two years.ĭon’t get me wrong-she did worry about her husband and her family’s future. I tried to put myself in her shoes and could not fathom how she continued to function so well. She was at the center because her husband had just been diagnosed with brain cancer. She was a thirty-something entrepreneur, wife, and mother to three young kids. This immediately brought me back to one memorable patient I saw, years ago, as part of my training at a cancer center. Recently, a listener wrote to me and asked about how to cope with being afraid of a loved one dying. Be patient and treat yourself with the compassion you would show a small child who fears their parent's death. Ground yourself with mini mindfulness exercises. Worry is the brain's way of trying to make you feel safe and in control, but you don't have to buy into the stories your brain creates that are not necessarily true, meaningful, or helpful. If you worry about a loved one dying even though they're not at risk, your excessive worry may be a symptom of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) or the result of stress, uncertainty, or previous experience with sudden losses. Prioritize self-care with the basics of good nutrition, sleep, social support, and whatever else keeps you whole. Don't avoid conversations about death, because your loved one may need to express their feelings and concerns. If you're worried because someone you love has a serious illness or is otherwise at high risk for dying, you can help them and yourself by living in the moment. 8/14/2023 0 Comments 6 volt battery testerMany are capable of checking your alternator as well. Some testers take the reading much quicker than the standard 15 seconds. Depending on which model you buy, you can get the percentage charge, voltage, rated and actual CCA, internal resistance, and a battery health reading (an estimate of the life remaining as a percentage). In practice, many battery load testers will provide a good deal more information. If it produces a consistent 9.6 volts, it passes. The testing device measures the voltage for 15 seconds at 50% of the battery’s stated CCA. Ideally, a load test should be performed at 70☏ or warmer. For a family sedan, that’s probably around 400 amps. In practical terms, it’s the number of amps required to start your vehicle. This is the number of amps a battery needs to maintain a voltage of 7.2V for 30 seconds at 0☏. All vehicle batteries have a cold cranking amps (CCA) rating. When the energy starts to flow, it’s measured in amperes, commonly called amps. For a 24V heavy-duty truck battery, simply double those figures. A 12-volt automotive battery should actually read 12.6 volts when fully charged and the engine is turned off, and somewhere between 13.7V and 14.7V when the engine is running. Volts can be looked at as the amount of energy available within the battery. The basic job of a load tester is to check volts and amps, though some models can do much more than that. This method is significantly more accurate than measuring voltage and internal resistance and does not deplete the battery unlike a conventional battery load tester. What does a battery load tester actually test? The ACT 612 uses advanced pulse load technology to analyze Ah capacity, based on the battery’s temperature and state of charge. This feature enables the unit to be calibrated to test various lead acid battery technologies or to specific brands of batteries. A quick look up table shows common battery sizes and at what Ah capacity rate they should be recharged or replaced. By giving a clear and accurate reading of a battery’s Ah capacity available, the ACT 612 makes it easy to identify replacements quickly. Results indicate when to recharge or replaceīattery manufacturers recommend to recharge or replace a battery when its rated Ah capacity falls below 65%. Once connected – ensuring a tight connection to clean battery terminals – the ACT 612 automatically displays the DC Voltage available followed by the Ah capacity reading. The ACT 612 will test 6V battery models between 1.2Ah and 10Ah, and 12V battery models between 1.2Ah and 100Ah. Use the Calibration Control to select either standby SLA, cyclic GEL and car FLOODED battery types prior to testing. Dual voltage, designed for common lead acid battery types Simple in operation, the ACT 612 simulates a full 20 hour (C20) discharge test in seconds and displays the DC Voltage results and Ah capacity available. The ACT 612 Intelligent Battery Tester is designed for testing 6V and 12V standby SLA, cyclic GEL and car FLOODED batteries. Take seconds to receive accurate Ampere hour (Ah) capacity results of the most common lead acid battery types. 8/14/2023 0 Comments Define whiskey dick“Serve the purposes of the Act” (as defined in sections 101(a)(2) and 303(c) of the Act) means that water quality standards should, wherever attainable, provide water quality for the protection and propagation of fish, shellfish and wildlife and for recreation in and on the water and take into consideration their use and value of public water supplies, propagation of fish, shellfish, and wildlife, recreation in and on the water, and agricultural, industrial, and other purposes including navigation. He serves as the end boss of Mission 1, replacing the Jick variant. The NES version of Double Dragon only features one version of Abobo, who visually resembles the Zack Abobo without a scar, but has a moveset from all Abobo variants. There are unused sprites of Zack Abobo performing the two-hand clap, as well as Jick Abobo and Green Abobo throwing barrels. According to Koji Ogata, these variants can also be considered under the "Abobo" name. Green Abobo (or Mibobo) has more health, deals more damage, and moves faster compared to the Jick and Zack Abobos. There is also a green-skinned palette swap of Jick at the end of Mission 3, originally just called Abobo, but later retroactively renamed Mibobo. This Abobo initially appears as a singular enemy at the end of Mission 1, but later appears with a clone as a miniboss in Mission 5. Jick (or Jack), a bearded and mohawked Abobo with larger eyes who has traded the ability to throw barrels in exchange for a powerful two-handed clap. This variant commonly appears throughout the game. A standard bald and mustachioed Abobo with a scar that can pick up barrels, originally called Zack according to a 1987 issue of Beep. Like Roper, Abobo has the ability to pick up and toss large objects, but he only has the opportunity to use this ability in Mission 3, where the twin Abobos of that stage can pick up and throw a couple of large rocks. After the initial encounter, Abobo appears again a few times throughout Mission 3 (including twin versions before arriving at the enemy hideout's gate) and one last time as part of the final set of enemies prior to the final battle with Willy in Mission 4. He and his variants are the only male enemies in the game who cannot be grabbed by the player. His signature technique is the "Atomic Throw", in which he picks up and tosses the player to his back. Due to his large stature, his punches and kicks have a better reach than the other minor enemies. This strongman is tougher and more menacing than the other grunts in the game. Abobo is a recurring enemy and sub-boss in the arcade version of Double Dragon, first appearing midway through Mission 1, making a rather dramatic entrance by breaking through a wall by punching it with his bare fists. It ensures that you properly price a product or service. To ensure that you are on the right track, it is necessary to focus on your numbers upfront. If you don’t calculate the break-even points for your products or services, you risk not generating a profit (or not as much of a profit as you believed you would). Which products or services are sold at a loss?Ī company’s goal is to become profitable as soon as possible. Which products or services generate a profit?.How much revenue do I need to generate to cover all my expenses?.This is why every company needs to focus on its point of profitability. It helps you identify the point of profitability.Ī business that doesn’t turn a profit could take a turn for the worse at any time. While there is a lot to know about conducting a break-even analysis, let’s focus on the three most common uses. Then, once your business is established, you can use a break-even analysis to develop direct cost structures and to identify opportunities for promotions and discounts. You can use this information when your business is in the planning stages to determine whether your idea is feasible or not. It also helps you understand at which point you’ll generate profits so you can set production goals accordingly. Why is a break-even analysis important?Ī break-even analysis informs you of the bare minimum performance your business must meet to avoid losing money. Using the break-even analysis formula, you can see that the company must sell 10,000 bottles to recoup its costs and 10,001 bottles to begin earning a profit:Įditor’s note: Looking for a small business loan? Fill out the questionnaire below to have our vendor partners contact you about your needs. The variable costs of making one bottle of water is $2 per unit, and each bottle is sold for $12. In this example from the Corporate Finance Institute, a water company has total fixed costs of $100,000. To be profitable, you would have to sell at least 201 products. The formula to calculate how many products you must sell to break even would look like this:īased on the formula, you would need to sell 200 products to cover your costs, effectively breaking even. Your total fixed costs are $10,000 per month, and the variable cost is $50 per product. The price of one of the products you sell is $100. Here are two examples of the break-even point formula. This data is often used for financial projections. The same holds true for a particular product or service. With a break-even analysis, you can determine when your company will generate enough revenue to cover its expenses and earn a profit. The term “break-even” refers to a situation where you are neither making nor losing money, but all of your costs have been covered. It is a relatively simple calculation, but it is critical in planning for profitability.įixed Costs / (Average Price – Variable Cost) = Break-Even Point Taken together, these elements create a formula known as the break-even point formula.

These mechanistic findings, together with the excellent safety profile after methanol and ethylene glycol poisoning and after an APAP overdose, suggest that fomepizole may be a promising antidote against APAP overdose that could be useful as adjunct treatment to NAC. Furthermore, the formation of oxidative metabolites was eliminated in healthy volunteers using the established treatment protocol for fomepizole in toxic alcohol and ethylene glycol poisoning. These mechanisms of protection (inhibition of Cyp2E1 and JNK) and an extended efficacy compared to NAC could be verified in primary human hepatocytes. In addition, fomepizole treatment, unlike NAC, prevented APAP-induced kidney damage and promoted hepatic regeneration in mice. In animal studies, fomepizole effectively prevented APAP-induced liver injury by inhibiting Cyp2E1 when treated early, and by inhibiting c-jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and oxidant stress when treated after the metabolism phase. Fomepizole (4-methylpyrazole), a clinically approved antidote against methanol and ethylene glycol poisoning, recently emerged as a promising candidate. Thus, additional antidotes with an extended therapeutic window may be needed for these patients. However, for late-presenting patients or after ingestion of very large overdoses, the efficacy of NAC is diminished. The standard oral or intravenous dosing regimen of NAC is highly effective for patients with moderate overdoses who present within 8 h of APAP ingestion. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is still the only FDA-approved antidote against APAP overdose 40 years after its introduction. Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose can cause hepatotoxicity and even liver failure. |
